Sound in Motion, A Performer's Guide to Greater Musical Expression by David McGill. Special offer: Free shipping by Media Mail to addresses in the U.S.!

David McGill has written, "We tend to think that what we see on the page is music. What it really is is a recipe for how to make music. You have to take that bare framework and turn it into living sound. This is where the Tabuteau number system and everything else he taught comes into play, because it helps you get from that point of looking at black notes on white paper to creating emotion in the mind of the listener."

McGill’s Sound In Motion is a delightful read and a most welcome addition to any discussion of music interpretation. As a highly successful performing musician, he tells us all of the secret inner workings of Marcel Tabuteau’s teaching and his understanding of music’s structure and how to illuminate that structure, how to successfully produce a singing, expressive musical experience for anyone to hear. To enjoy a great performance, one need not know all the whys and wherefores of how the music was accomplished. However, it never hurts to know how the performer thinks before playing. A beautifully turned phrase with lovely tone is not blind inspiration, but rather, intelligent inspiration.

For a thorough and easily understood explanation of Tabuteau’s famous teaching tools, Sound In Motion is a “Rosetta Stone” of experience. --David Weber
