How much can a bore adjustment change my instrument? I mean it can’t ADD wood on, right?
Well, the later might be true but the bore adjustment had made my instrument a beautiful horn. I don’t mean to boast, but my Royal is a force to be reckoned with, and when Weber says “use the bore adjustment with my Weber 1-B shape and weber tubes”, the man knows what he’s talking about. I have used the oboe with gilbert shapes and chudnow tubes, and it’s a nice horn. But with the Weber shape (the approximate size of a Gilbert -1, except more stable, deeper sound, and better curve) with the Weber staple (smaller than a Chudnow, bigger than a glotin, very consistent) the results have been enormous. ENORMOUS!!! Everything “locks” into place. The high C no longer sags but sits right up with barely any rolling in, and my chronically sagging high A I am certainly overshooting and need to retrain myself to “relax, and trust the oboe!” This is definetely the way oboe should be played!
