The traditional method of swabbing the oboe or English horn after playing.
These turkey feathers are a natural product, and each one is different.
We only offer the wild, bronze turkey tail feathers (never white, dyed, or wing feathers), as tail feathers have a smaller shaft and are straighter.
For best results, insert feather, turn 1/2 revolution and then extract it from the bore. Don’t try to actually dry out the bore with it. The idea is not to remove all the water from the bore, but to cause the bore to be coated with a film of moisture. The weight of the water will then keep it running to the back of the bore where there are no tone holes, and then run down and drip out the bell. You will always have water, so you want to sort of “train” it to go in that direction.
Each feather lasts a long time. Shake it dry after using.
A feather has never gotten stuck in the bore like swabs sooner or later will, and it just might extend the life of your instrument’s bore. A Weber Reeds recommended item.
