Description

The Shapton Compact Lapping Plate allows you to lap (flatten) and sharpen at the same station. With the included rubber shoe mounted on the lapping plate, the base becomes a very sturdy holder for your stones while sharpening, and provides full support for your stone without any rocking.

Lapping is an important step in sharpening because it keeps the stone from getting arches, which translates into an uneven edge.

Each Shapton Compact Lapping Plate features the following:

• Solid, cast iron lapping plate
• Rubber boot enables sharpening and lapping at the same station

In addition, you can add one or more of the following specially formulated surfacing compounds that are used when lapping. Each of the three powders corresponds to the grit level of the stones. There are Coarse, Medium, and Fine powders.

• Coarse Surfacing Compound – for lapping #120-#900 grit stones
• Medium Surfacing Compound – for lapping #1,000 – #4,000 grit stones
• Fine Surfacing Compound – for lapping #5,000 – #30,000 grit stones.
