Our “standard” cane is the same high quality Grimaud cane, but not as highly selected as our “premium” cane.
Grimaud (gree-moh) is our private stock cane from the Var region of southern France. It is moderately hard, vibrates readily, and produces a lovely tone. We process all Grimaud prepared cane here in the Weber Reeds shop.
All Grimaud cane is gouged on double-radius style gouging machines personally set up by David Weber and shaped using your choice of Weber shaper tips. To maximize your reed making success, specifications may vary minimally as we adapt to different batches of cane and/or growing seasons.
Tie-on length: As long as possible, so that the sides close fully, but barely. Please note that the length may easily differ from reed to reed, depending on the staple and the individual piece of cane.
